REFLECTION

The academic conference poster was created as a practice exercise for the Design and Development of Digital Media course (LTLE 570). For this theoretical exercise, I designed a 24” x 18” landscape poster using Adobe Photoshop that I would theoretically present at the AECT annual conference on Educational Technology. Therefore, the topic selection, design, formatting, and graphic elements would have to adhere to the AECT conference guidelines as well as conventions of academic conference posters intended for higher learning.

I demonstrated program objective 2 and AECT Standard 1 (Content Knowledge) through my ability to apply learning theories to scenarios and applications of technologies. Although the body text of the poster was primarily placeholder text, I did need to conduct some preliminary research to understand just how an academic conference poster looks and feels. Furthermore, additional research and inquiry was required when selecting and forming an appropriate Ed Tech topic and supporting plausible data. Through this somewhat untraditional method and application of research, inquiry, evaluation, and synthesis, I satisfied AECT Standard 5 (Research).

Graduate Program Objective 2: Create conditions for learning by applying theories (e.g. learning theories, curriculum theory and communications theories) to authentic scenarios involving diverse populations.

AECT Standard 1 (Content Knowledge): Candidates demonstrate the knowledge necessary to create, use, assess, and manage theoretical and practical applications of educational technologies and processes.

AECT Standard 5 (Research): Candidates explore, evaluate, synthesize, and apply methods of inquiry to enhance learning and improve performance.
